Three new special models using a traditional symbolic purple color

Japan has traditional celebrations for people who reach the age of 60. At the age of 70, the celebration is called Koki (古稀).

Commemorating the70th anniversary of Onitsuka Tiger this year, three models of Koki’s symbolic color, the MEXICO 66, OK BASKETBALL MT, and TIGER CORSAIR have been released. In addition to the purple coloring, a process called micro-knifing, which digs ridges and patterns to create a unique texture on different parts, is used to bring another dimension to the shoe.

MEXICO 66 is a special training shoe, combining the features of the 1962’s training shoes with the Onitsuka Tiger stripes which made their first appearance on the training shoe LIMBER in 1966. These stripes were also adopted for the Japanese delegation shoes of the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games. MEXICO 66, with both the style in the 1960s and the modern design, is one of the Onitsuka Tiger’s flagship models. The micro-knifing gives a new look to the Onitsuka Tiger stripes.

OK BASKETBALL MT has been reproduced based on the design of Onitsuka Tiger’s first basketball shoe to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its foundation. Iconic designs such as metal eyelets are virtually unchanged, and upper materials are almost the same as they were at that time. A molded insole adopted makes us comfortable. Also look at micro-knifing on the back vertical lines.

The training shoe TIGER CORSAIR released in the 1970s, which became a pioneer in the jogging boom, was reproduced close to the original in spring 2017. Micro-knifing on the heel creates eye-catching design.
